PESHAWAR – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police have implemented drone jamming technology for the first time this Muharram during Ashura processions in Peshawar. The move aims to bolster security measures amid large-scale religious gatherings and evolving aerial surveillance threats.

Security officials confirmed that the anti-drone system was activated along key procession routes to intercept any unauthorised aerial devices. The deployment was part of an expanded security strategy that included checkpoints, metal detectors, drones, and enhanced foot patrols to ensure the safety of participants.

Police emphasised that the technology is non-aggressive, focusing solely on disabling drone communications and navigation without endangering the public. Authorities added that no hostile or suspicious drone activity was reported during the two days of Muharram observances.

Local law enforcement praised the initiative as a proactive measure to counter emerging threats, noting that the successful test could pave the way for broader use of drone countermeasures in future large-scale events.
