ISLAMABAD – The federal government has approved the deployment of Frontier Constabulary (FC) personnel at the residence of Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman in Dera Ismail Khan, according to official sources. The move comes following a terrorist attack on an FC checkpoint in the area, which claimed the lives of several personnel.
This decision, reportedly made on the recommendation of the federal Threat Assessment Committee, comes as part of measures to strengthen security around key political figures and installations. FC troops are expected to provide close protection at Fazl’s home and other high-risk locations nearby.
The deployment is also aimed at reassuring local communities and containing any further militant threats. Dera Ismail Khan has experienced a series of attacks against security forces in recent months, highlighting the fragile security environment.
Local FC units have been increasingly active in the district under Operation Azm-e-Istehkam, the government’s intensified counter-terrorism campaign. The deployment of protective details is seen as a continuation of this broader security strategy.
