ISLAMABAD – In response to heavy monsoon rainfall, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) initiated urgent measures on Wednesday to drain accumulated rainwater from the Diplomatic Enclave and surrounding low-lying areas, including Sector F-5.

Officials from the CDA’s Estate Management Wing confirmed that several diplomatic premises experienced waterlogging due to overwhelmed drainage systems. The situation prompted immediate deployment of CDA maintenance teams, who began dewatering efforts using submersible pumps and emergency machinery to prevent disruption and infrastructural damage.

Prompt Response to Diplomatic Concerns

The CDA responded swiftly after receiving multiple complaints from diplomatic missions and government offices. Teams from the Parks Directorate and Sanitation Department were also mobilised to assist with debris clearance and restore access to blocked roads.

Temporary traffic diversions were implemented to facilitate continued vehicular movement and to ensure safety of personnel operating in the affected areas.

Drainage Infrastructure Under Strain

Urban infrastructure experts have long warned that Islamabad’s drainage systems require significant upgrades. Encroachments, unregulated waste disposal, and ageing pipelines have reduced system efficiency, making the city vulnerable to monsoon-related flooding.

CDA has identified several segments of the drainage network requiring immediate repair and is reportedly working on plans to rehabilitate key water flow corridors in and around the Diplomatic Enclave.

Preventive Measures and Public Advisory

In anticipation of further rain spells, CDA has issued fresh instructions to ensure regular cleaning of stormwater drains and has begun reviewing the condition of critical pumping stations. Residents and institutions have been advised to avoid disposing of solid waste into drains and to cooperate with ongoing municipal efforts.

The Diplomatic Enclave, home to numerous foreign missions and high-security facilities, remains a priority zone for uninterrupted access and infrastructure stability during adverse weather conditions.
