RAWALPINDI – Police in Rawalpindi have arrested a father in connection with the fatal shooting of his 16-year-old daughter, reportedly over her refusal to delete her TikTok account. Initially reported by the family as a suicide, law enforcement officials determined it was a homicide following their investigation.

Local police confirmed that the suspect had demanded his daughter remove her social media profile. When she refused, he allegedly shot her and fled the scene. A search operation is underway to apprehend him, with detectives collecting forensic evidence and recording witness statements.

Authorities say the case highlights growing tensions in conservative communities, where conflicts over digital expression and perceived moral boundaries sometimes result in tragic outcomes. The incident has reignited debate around honour-based violence and the need to protect young people’s autonomy.

Pakistan sees hundreds of such killings annually, often masked as suicides or accidents. Human rights groups warn that unless broader cultural and legal interventions are enacted, these cases will continue to reflect deep-rooted societal issues.
