SAN FRANCISCO – In a significant policy shift, YouTube has announced it will no longer allow monetisation of mass-produced or AI-generated content that lacks originality, starting July 15, 2025.
The decision is aimed at curbing the spread of low-effort, repetitive videos that have flooded the platform in recent years. Under the revised YouTube Partner Programme (YPP) guidelines, content creators relying solely on AI voices, generic visuals, or templated formats without human input will be ineligible for ad revenue.
Key Highlights of the New Policy
- Channels that post videos using AI-generated narration with no personal commentary will be affected.
- Faceless channels that recycle existing footage or slideshows without adding creative value will lose monetisation rights.
- Repetitive content using stock visuals or automated scripts with no meaningful transformation will also be restricted.
YouTube clarified that content featuring original analysis, personal voiceovers, commentary, or educational value will continue to qualify for monetisation.
Supporting Original Creators
The platform stated that the change is designed to support creators who offer genuine storytelling, creative editing, and human insight—elements that advertisers value and audiences trust.
“YouTube wants to reward authentic content and discourage practices that lead to spam-like or deceptive videos,” the company said in a statement.
Implementation and Monitoring
YouTube will use a combination of AI detection tools and human review teams to identify non-compliant content. Creators whose videos are flagged will receive notifications and can appeal decisions.
Repeated violations could result in demonetisation, removal from YPP, or channel suspension.
Guidelines for Compliance
Creators are being advised to:
- Include voiceovers or on-camera presence
- Provide insightful commentary or educational context
- Transform reused content meaningfully
- Avoid automated, repetitive formats
The move comes as digital platforms face increasing pressure to regulate AI-driven content and maintain credibility for advertisers and users alike.
