KUALA LUMPUR: Pakistan’s promising squash talents, Farhan Zaman and Zahra Khan, have secured their spots in the knockout rounds of the prestigious Asian Squash Championship after impressive performances in the group stage.

Farhan, known for his aggressive court play and precision attacking shots, won all three of his group matches. His clean victories demonstrated sharp form and positioned him as a strong contender in the men’s draw.

Meanwhile, Zahra capped off her group stage campaign with a close victory, booking her place among the top contenders in the women’s competition. She showed resilience and tactical adaptability, overcoming a tough opponent in straight games.

Their progress marks Pakistan’s continued resurgence in the sport, with both players drawing praise for their preparation and composure under pressure. National coach Jahangir Khan, present at the venue, described their results as “encouraging signs” for Pakistan’s future in continental tournaments.

The duo now advance to the round of 16, where they are set to face tougher competition—on paper at least—from top-seeded players representing India, Hong Kong, and Malaysia. Both athletes say their focus is on peak performance, match by match.

Success in the knockout stage would not only boost their individual rankings but also serve as a morale boost for Pakistan’s squash programme — aiming to return the country to its former position as a global powerhouse.
