US, Russia extend nuclear treaty for 5 more years

WASHINGTON: The United States has extended the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty with Russia for five years.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken in a statement said the extension makes the United States and its allies as partners, and the world safer.

Blinken said that Washington would use the five-year extension period to seek arms control with Moscow that addresses all of the Russian nuclear weapons.
