SAN FRANSICO: Twitter said on Monday that it has launched a pilot that allows its users to submit notes on tweets that may be false or misleading.

As per sources, Twitter and other social media companies have been under pressure to fight misinformation on their platforms hence, Twitter started adding warnings about misinformation on its plat form.

The initiative programme named as 'Birdwatch', was initially launched in the United States (US).

Moreover, Twitter is asking its users for help in combating fake news as it announced a pilot that allows people to submit notes on tweets that may be false or misleading, provide evidence to the contrary and discuss them with other on a separate Birdwatch site.

Twitter believes that this new approach could help it respond more quickly when misleading or false information spreads.

"We know this might be messy and have problems at times, but we believe this is a model worth trying," said twitter.

Twitter Vice President stated that eventually they are aiming to make notes visible directly on Tweets for the global Twitter audience so that they could identify when there is consensus from a broad and diverse set of contributors.
