CHAGAI: Army and other security forces, local tribal elders and officials from the district administration, in Chagai have agreed to review strict restrictions on checkpoints near Afghanistan’s border with an aim to promote socio-economic well-being of the local people.
This was discussed in the first district liaison committee (DLC) meeting, presided over by Deputy Commissioner Mansoor Ahmed Baloch at his office in Dalbandin on Friday.
Mr Baloch told reporters that the meeting was held to review socio-economic activities and law and order situation in Chagai district, located along Pakistan’s borders with Iran and Afghanistan.
He said the tribal elders apprised the participants of the needs of the local people while government officials put their own version in front of them.
“It was decided that all committee members will enhance coordination to facilitate the masses. The committee also decided to review the strict checking process at the checkpoints of security forces near Pak-Afghan border,” he said.
The deputy commissioner explained that the liaison committee would meet every month to review the socio-economic activities and take measures to maintain law and order in the area. He said the border trade with Iran and Afghanistan would be channelised and monitored to prevent illegal activity.
