BARA BAZAR: One policeman was martyred and at least nine people were injured on Thursday in a suicide blast in the Bara Bazaar in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Khyber district, a hospital spokesperson said.
Hayatabad Medical Complex (HMC) spokesperson Tuheed said in a statement that seven police personnel and two civilians were injured.
She added that one policeman was martyred in the blast while the condition of three of the injured was “stable”.
An earlier statement from Rescue 1122 had stated that a police station was located near the Bara Bazaar.
KP Inspector General Akhtar Hayat confirmed that it was a suicide attack.
He was quoted as saying that two suicide bombers had tried to enter the premises of an official structure — one from the main gate and the other from the backside.
Geo News further reported him stating that both the attackers were killed in retaliatory fire from the police when they were intercepted.
The police have obtained DNA samples of the suicide bombers for further investigation, IG Hayat said, according to the report.
