RAMALLAH: Palestinian authority has opened the registration offices in the West Bank and Gaza to admit the political parties and independent candidates that will take part in the parliamentary elections scheduled to be held in May this year.
This is the first parliamentary elections to be held in the West Bank and Gaza in fifteen years.
This is seen as vital to build broader support for any future statehood talks with Israel, frozen since 2014.
Some 93 percent of the 2.8 million eligible voters in the West Bank and Gaza have registered for the polling. The total population in the Palestinian territories is 5.2 million.
