ISLAMABAD: A new United Nations global report says over 930 million tons of food is thrown away in waste bins every year.
According to the Food Waste Index Report 2021, approximately 17% of food produced and sold around the globe in 2019 ended up in waste bins.
It says the amount would be sufficient to load 23 million food trucks, which if lined up bumper-to-bumper, would be enough to circle the planet seven times.
The study reveals that households discard 11 per cent of food at the consumption stage of the supply chain, while food services and retail outlets waste five and two per cent, respectively.
