Gwadar Intl Airport to open in August

ISLAMABAD: The new Gwadar International Airport will be opened for flights in August at the cost of Rs51 billion, according to the spokesman of Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority.

For this, Chinese grant equivalent to Rs34 billion is included.

In 2023, the main runway of Allama Iqbal International Airport, Lahore, was reconstructed and upgraded to allow the use of Category F aircraft at the cost of Rs18.5 billion.

The new year will see the construction of Muridke Aerodrome project and the existing Walton Aerodrome will be relocated there when it is completed in March 2024.

As many as 7 CAA projects will start in 2024 including multi-storeyed car parking for Bacha Khan International Airport, upgrade of existing Charlie and Alpha taxiway at Multan Airport, and Apron H lights and Apron floodlights tower will be constructed. The outer and inner roads of Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport will be upgraded to decongest and facilitate passengers movement. A new air traffic control tower and fire station will be constructed at the Karachi Airport. Construction of new grade fleet airport at Dera Ismail Khan will start at a new location.
