GUJRAT: Ms Khalida Shahid has been elected as the first ever woman president of the Hafizabad District Bar Association in a close contest. Ms Shahid secured 504 votes against her rival candidate Rae Waqar’s 501 votes in the polling held on Saturday.
Some senior lawyers claim that Ms Shahid is also the first-ever women president of a DBA in the country.
Affiliated with the Pakistan People’s Party, she has been heading its Hafizabad chapter. Ms Shahid had also contested the polls for the DBA top slot two years back, but lost the contest.
The legal fraternity has congratulated her on winning the DBA poll in a tough competition. In Gujrat DBA elections, Raja Haneef and Sherbaz Sarwar have been elected as president and secretary, respectively.
