LAHORE – Five top leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), currently imprisoned in Kot Lakhpat Jail, have jointly called for fresh and transparent general elections, warning that ongoing political instability could push the country toward further crisis.

The statement was issued by Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Dr Yasmin Rashid, Mian Mahmoodur Rasheed, Senator Ejaz Chaudhry, and Omar Sarfraz Cheema. In a powerful message from behind bars, they said a fair electoral process is the only way to ensure peace and unity across Pakistan.

‘Learn from History Before It’s Too Late’

Drawing a parallel with the events of 1970, the leaders cautioned that ignoring public mandate could once again endanger the country’s integrity. They specifically pointed to growing unrest in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, warning that external forces may exploit the situation.

Criticism of Current Government

The jailed leaders criticized both federal and provincial governments for failing to maintain law and order, revive the economy, or address the public’s concerns. They said Imran Khan’s leadership had brought stability, and claimed current rulers lack both vision and support.

Call for Dialogue and Democracy

The PTI leaders concluded by urging the judiciary, military, and political forces to come together for the sake of Pakistan’s future. “The country cannot afford more chaos. It’s time for honest elections and national reconciliation,” the letter stated.
