LAHORE – A Lahore court on Wednesday withdrew the arrest warrant issued against PTI President Chaudhry Parvez Elahi in the high-profile Takht Pari land case, after his legal counsel submitted a medical certificate justifying his absence.
The court accepted the excuse and granted one-day exemption from appearance, cancelling the earlier issued non-bailable warrant. The hearing has now been adjourned to a later date.
Background of the Case
Parvez Elahi, along with 16 other accused, is facing charges of illegally occupying state land in Moza Takht Pari for a housing project. The case alleges that the unauthorised occupation could result in a Rs335 billion loss to the national exchequer.
During the proceedings, the court ordered all present co-accused to submit surety bonds worth Rs500,000 each. Those who failed to appear are expected to comply with court directions in the next hearing.
Next Hearing Date
The case has now been adjourned until April 16, where the court is expected to resume its review of the charges, land records, and the financial implications of the alleged illegal occupation.
Legal Relief but Unsettled Future
While the cancellation of the arrest warrant offers temporary relief to Parvez Elahi, legal experts believe the case remains far from over. The accused will need to present a strong defence in the upcoming hearing to avoid further legal complications.
The court has also instructed legal teams to come fully prepared as it plans to move forward with examining evidence and testimonies in the next phase of the trial.
