PAKISTAN – The 21st edition of the Westbury National Tennis Championship commenced on Thursday at Karachi Club, with over 230 players registered across various categories, marking a major highlight in the national tennis calendar.

The opening round featured intense qualifying matches in both the men’s singles and Under-18 junior divisions. In men’s singles qualifiers, Arham Shahzad and Jawed Khan both recorded 8–0 wins, Yasir Fazli triumphed 8–1, while Mohammad Essa Jee and Farman Ali secured victories of 8–2 and 8–6 respectively. The junior bracket saw Zayd Ali, Zain Nomi, and Yahya Bin Zain each win their matches 8–0, while Ahsan Ali progressed with an 8–1 victory.

Main draw action in the men’s singles also began, with Laraib Shamsi and Abdullah Tahseen each advancing 8–2 in their first-round matches. Tournament organisers expect competitive play in the coming week as matches unfold.

The championship, a key event in the national tennis circuit, is being closely watched for emerging talent and potential national champions in both senior and junior ranks.
