TORONTO — Canadian swimming sensation and world champion Summer McIntosh has announced her withdrawal from all three stops of the 2025 World Aquatics Swimming World Cup after unexpectedly falling ill. The 19-year-old athlete missed the opening event in Indianapolis and confirmed she will not compete in the upcoming Illinois leg from October 17–19 or the final stop in her hometown of Toronto from October 23–25.
Through a spokesperson, McIntosh expressed her deep disappointment at missing the opportunity to race in front of her hometown fans. She emphasized that she has been unable to train and is focusing on rest and recovery to return to the pool. This World Cup series was to be her first international competition under the guidance of renowned coach Bob Bowman, who previously coached Michael Phelps to 23 Olympic gold medals. McIntosh relocated to Austin, Texas, to train with Bowman at the end of August.
The three-stop World Cup tour, featuring Olympic and world champion swimmers, boasts a total prize pool of $1.2 million, with $10,000 awarded for any world records. McIntosh was among a select group of Canadians, including Josh Liendo, Kylie Masse, Mary-Sophie Harvey, and Ilya Kharun, who had signed up for at least one stop of the tour.
