KARACHI – In a high-tension development within the Pakistan Super League (PSL), franchise owner Ali Khan Tareen of the Multan Sultans launched a pointed critique of the league’s governing board in a scathing social-media video masquerading as an “apology”.
Tareen posted the video after receiving a legal notice from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) threatening suspension of his team for alleged breaches of the franchise agreement. Holding the notice in his hand, he declared dissatisfaction with the board’s “mediocre mindset”, demanded greater innovation, and then tore up the document on camera.
The franchise issued a statement defending Tareen’s remarks, saying his criticisms were meant to propel the PSL forward, not undermine it. The PCB, however, maintains the notice cited repeated public commentary that it believes damages the league’s reputation and violates contractual terms.
The confrontation exposes wider fault-lines in Pakistan’s premier T20 league: franchisees demanding clearer governance and growth strategy, and the board seeking stricter compliance and control. With the PSL’s future structure and valuation under discussion, this episode adds new urgency to the unresolved franchise-board relationship.
