WASHINGTON – The United States has expressed confidence that Israel’s military offensive in Gaza will be resolved before the close of the year, with U.S. Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff indicating that both sides may be edging closer to talks.
In a televised interview, Witkoff remarked that Washington expects the hostilities to be “settled one way or another” within the coming months. He explained that Israel has signaled its willingness to remain open to discussions with Hamas, while Hamas itself has shown indications of exploring a negotiated settlement.
The envoy’s statement comes at a time when the conflict has already exacted a heavy toll on civilians, drawing international calls for an immediate ceasefire and broader humanitarian access. Analysts suggest that Washington’s expectation reflects ongoing diplomatic efforts behind the scenes, including pressure from regional partners to reduce tensions and avoid a prolonged war.
Despite the cautious optimism, Witkoff acknowledged the complexity of the situation, noting that any final settlement would depend on the political will of both sides as well as assurances regarding regional security. Observers believe the U.S. will continue to play a central role in facilitating dialogue while balancing its strategic commitments in the Middle East.
