Former United States president Donald Trump has issued a strong warning to Iran over the stalled nuclear negotiations, saying that time is rapidly running out for Tehran to reach an agreement and avoid serious consequences.
In remarks that have reignited tensions surrounding the long-running dispute, Trump said Iran’s nuclear programme continues to advance while diplomatic efforts remain deadlocked. He reiterated his position that Iran must not be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons, warning that failure to reach a deal would leave Washington with limited choices.
Trump criticised the pace and direction of ongoing diplomatic engagement, accusing Iran of using negotiations as a delaying tactic while strengthening its nuclear capabilities. He said previous agreements lacked enforcement mechanisms and claimed they provided Iran with economic relief without ensuring lasting restrictions on its nuclear activities.
The former president maintained that any future agreement would need to be significantly tougher, featuring strict monitoring, verifiable limits, and long-term commitments. He also suggested that continued delays could lead to increased pressure, including economic and political measures, if Iran failed to comply with international demands.
Iranian authorities have consistently rejected such accusations, insisting that their nuclear programme is intended solely for peaceful purposes. Tehran has blamed shifting US policies and the reimposition of sanctions for undermining trust and derailing negotiations, stating that diplomacy cannot progress under threats or coercion.
The renewed exchange of strong rhetoric comes at a time of heightened regional instability, with analysts warning that escalating statements from both sides could further complicate diplomatic efforts. International observers have cautioned that continued uncertainty over the nuclear talks risks increasing tensions in the Middle East and beyond.
