Moscow/Washington – The much-anticipated meeting between former US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin concluded without any breakthrough on ending the conflict in Ukraine.
Both leaders described the talks as “constructive,” but acknowledged that no formal agreement was reached. Trump stated that “progress was made” but emphasized that “further discussions will be required.” Putin, meanwhile, reiterated Moscow’s stance, accusing Western powers of obstructing peace efforts.
The summit had raised global expectations for a possible ceasefire or roadmap to peace. However, analysts say the failure to reach an accord highlights the deep divide over Ukraine’s sovereignty, NATO’s role in Eastern Europe, and Russia’s security demands.
International markets reacted cautiously to the outcome, while European allies expressed disappointment at the lack of progress. Both sides indicated a willingness to continue dialogue, but no timeline was announced for the next round of talks.
The Ukraine conflict, now in its second year, has caused thousands of casualties and displaced millions, with little sign of a resolution despite repeated diplomatic efforts.
