WASHINGTON, D.C.: Former U.S. President Donald Trump has once again stirred the political landscape by declaring that he would not consider running for the vice-presidency in 2028, but left the door slightly open for an unprecedented third presidential term.
Speaking aboard Air Force One during his Asia-Pacific visit, Trump remarked that while he was legally allowed to contest as vice president, it would be “too cute” and politically unsuitable. “I’d be allowed to do that, but I wouldn’t do that. I think it’s too cute. It wouldn’t be right,” Trump said, signaling his disinterest in serving under another president.
However, in typical Trump fashion, the former president avoided giving a clear-cut response about a potential third term, despite constitutional limitations under the 22nd Amendment that bar any individual from being elected more than twice. “Would I rule it out? You tell me,” he teased, hinting that he remains deeply engaged in the Republican power dynamics.
Trump, whose popularity within his base remains formidable, also praised key Republican figures like Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, calling them “great people” capable of leading the party forward. Political observers, however, believe his remarks were a subtle reminder that the Trump brand still dominates the GOP narrative heading into 2028.
As the political debate reignites, Trump’s words have once again placed him at the center of U.S. political discourse, blurring the lines between legacy, ambition, and controversy.
