WASHINGTON – Former U.S. President Donald Trump has firmly rejected calls for a ceasefire in the escalating Israel-Iran conflict, instead demanding what he described as a “real end” to the crisis — one that includes Iran abandoning its nuclear ambitions entirely.
Speaking after cutting short his appearance at the G-7 summit, Trump clarified that any solution short of dismantling Iran’s nuclear program is “meaningless.” He dismissed recent European-led efforts to negotiate a truce, asserting, “We’re not looking for pauses in violence. We want the threat neutralised — for good.”
The remarks come amid intensifying military exchanges between Israel and Iran, with reports of Israeli strikes on Iranian military and nuclear sites, and retaliatory attacks from Tehran.
Trump’s statement was seen as a direct rebuttal to French President Emmanuel Macron, who earlier claimed the U.S. was quietly pushing for de-escalation. Trump denied these claims, saying, “We’re aiming much higher than a ceasefire.”
While the former president ruled out short-term diplomatic compromises, he hinted at the possibility of future negotiations—if Iran shows signs of permanently stepping away from its nuclear path.
Tensions in the Middle East continue to escalate, with international observers warning that without a diplomatic breakthrough, the region risks slipping into a prolonged and dangerous confrontation.
