LOS ANGELES – British actor Tom Bateman has been cast alongside American actress Lili Reinhart in the upcoming film adaptation of The Love Hypothesis, a romantic comedy based on the bestselling novel of the same name. The project is being developed under the banner of Amazon MGM Studios.
Bateman will play the role of Dr. Adam Carlsen, a highly regarded but emotionally reserved professor who agrees to a fake relationship with Olive Smith, a determined PhD candidate portrayed by Reinhart. As the pretense continues, the pair find themselves confronting unexpected emotional truths.
Reinhart, widely known for her work in television, will not only lead the cast but also serve as an executive producer on the film. Claire Scanlon is directing the feature, with a script by Sarah Rothschild. Filming is currently underway in Canada and is expected to wrap later this year.
A unique connection to the story’s origins has also captured public interest. Bateman’s wife, actress Daisy Ridley, inspired the original fan fiction that evolved into the published novel and, now, the film. This real-life link has added to anticipation among fans.
The adaptation aims to bring the novel’s balance of humor, emotion, and romantic tension to a wider audience, contributing to the growing trend of turning popular fiction into cinematic releases.
