ISLAMABAD – According to the UN’s latest assessment, prolonged monsoon downpours have inundated vast stretches of farmland, destroyed crops, and disrupted essential food supply chains. The humanitarian body cautioned that millions of people may be left food insecure if urgent measures are not taken.
Officials stated that the floods have damaged critical infrastructure, including roads, storage facilities, and irrigation systems, making food transportation increasingly difficult. The situation has further compounded existing economic challenges, as rising inflation and global supply disruptions continue to pressure household budgets.
The UN has called for immediate international assistance, highlighting the need for emergency food relief, restoration of agricultural production, and stronger climate resilience measures. It stressed that without rapid intervention, the crisis could escalate into one of the worst food emergencies in Pakistan’s recent history.
The government of Pakistan has vowed to work with humanitarian partners to address the crisis and ensure that vulnerable populations receive timely aid.
