MURIDKE — Security forces in Pakistan intensified their presence on Saturday as Rangers and police surrounded a Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) protest camp in Muridke, Punjab, amid growing indications of an imminent operation.
Heavy contingents of law enforcement personnel and Rangers were deployed around the protest site early in the morning. Roads leading to the area were sealed, and traffic was diverted to restrict public access. Residents reported seeing armored vehicles and personnel carriers moving towards the camp, signaling that preparations for a possible crackdown were underway if negotiations failed.
Officials stated that efforts were continuing to resolve the situation through dialogue, with government representatives in talks with TLP leaders to encourage them to disperse peacefully. TLP has been holding the protest to push for the release of detained workers and the implementation of previous agreements.
Authorities have warned that no illegal activity will be tolerated and emphasized the state’s responsibility to maintain order. The situation in Muridke remains tense as both sides brace for the next steps, and residents have been advised to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel near the protest site.
