MASTUNG – A teenage boy was killed and two suspected militants were shot dead on Thursday after unidentified gunmen launched an attack on government offices in Mastung, a district in Balochistan plagued by recurring security threats.
According to local officials, the assailants opened fire on buildings housing the offices of the Sub-Divisional Administration and Education Department, triggering panic among staff and civilians in the vicinity. Security forces stationed nearby responded swiftly, engaging the attackers in a firefight.
During the exchange, a bystander teenager sustained critical injuries and was shifted to a local hospital, where he later succumbed. His identity has not been disclosed at this stage.
Security officials confirmed that two attackers were killed on the spot. Their bodies were taken into custody for identification and investigation. A search operation was immediately launched to trace any possible accomplices in the area.
Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage and other forensic evidence to determine the attackers’ affiliation and motive. While no group has claimed responsibility for the assault so far, the region has seen increased militant activity in recent months.
The provincial government condemned the attack and offered condolences to the victim’s family. Officials have assured the public that security protocols around government buildings will be tightened and further steps will be taken to ensure safety in vulnerable districts.
