ISLAMABAD, Pakistan – Pakistan and the United Kingdom have deepened their diplomatic and strategic partnership through renewed commitments in defence and trade, opening doors for long-term cooperation across critical sectors.
The two nations have formalised a Trade Dialogue Mechanism Agreement, launching the UK–Pakistan Business Advisory Council. This initiative aims to accelerate collaboration in key industries such as digital trade, renewable energy, ICT, pharmaceuticals, health, and agro-tech, with the UK pledging £200,000 in technical support to bolster investment and trade expansion. Current bilateral trade stands at £4.7 billion, reflecting a 7.3% increase in late 2024.
On the defence front, the relationship is gaining momentum through annual high-level interactions under frameworks like the UK–Pakistan Arms Control & Non-Proliferation Dialogue. The partnership spans joint military training, counterterrorism collaboration, and arms control policy development. Pakistani officers continue to receive training at the prestigious Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, underscoring the depth of trust between both forces.
Additionally, the evolving alliance is expected to influence Pakistan’s trajectory in climate resilience, green finance, and innovation, with strong input from UK industrial and education sectors. These developments position both nations to jointly navigate emerging global challenges while promoting inclusive economic growth.
