MASTUNG – One officer of the Balochistan Constabulary has lost his life and three others sustained injuries after armed attackers ambushed their vehicle on the National Highway near Choto in Mastung district, Pakistan. Provincial spokesperson Shahid Rind confirmed that the convoy consisted of a vehicle belonging to the acting deputy superintendent of police, which came under targeted gunfire.
The critically wounded personnel were rushed to Shaheed Nawab Ghaus Bakhsh Hospital in Quetta, while security forces launched an immediate search operation and deployed troops to the scene to pursue the attackers.
This incident adds to a series of escalating violent attacks in Balochistan. In April, a bomb explosion on Dasht Road in Mastung claimed three police lives and injured over a dozen others. More recently, on July 16, gunmen opened fire on a passenger bus near Kalat, resulting in three civilian fatalities and seven injuries. Earlier this month, a police vehicle in Nasirabad was also attacked, injuring three officers, and a grenade strike was carried out on a checkpoint at Sibi-Harnai railway crossing.
Authorities have withheld information on the identities of the assailants or their motivations. The violence underscores the persistent security challenges faced by law enforcement in the region, with militants frequently targeting government and security convoys.
