ISLAMABAD – The night sky over Pakistan is all set to put on a stunning celestial display as the last supermoon of 2025 becomes visible tonight and tomorrow, offering sky-gazers a rare and mesmerizing treat. SUPARCO has confirmed that this will be the final “Cold Supermoon” of the year — and one of the brightest.
According to the space agency, the supermoon will rise over Pakistan at 4:58pm (PST) on December 4, glowing at nearly 99.2% illumination, while its peak brilliance — around 99.8% — will occur at 4:15am on December 5. With the Moon reaching its closest point to Earth, known as perigee, it is expected to appear significantly bigger, brighter and more vivid than a typical full moon.
Astronomers explain that due to its close proximity of about 357,218 km, the Moon will shine almost 15% brighter and appear nearly 7.9% larger than usual. This makes it an unmissable moment for sky lovers, photographers, families and anyone who enjoys watching nature’s spectacular performances.
Experts recommend stepping outdoors at moonrise for the most dramatic view. The “moon-illusion” effect near the horizon often makes the supermoon seem even larger, giving viewers an unforgettable visual experience. Clear skies, minimal light pollution, and open spaces will ensure the best visibility across major cities and rural areas alike.
This celestial event is also symbolic — being the final supermoon of the year, it closes 2025’s lunar cycle with a radiant glow, marking a perfect opportunity for people to reflect, relax, and admire the beauty of the universe above.
