FAISALABAD – Pakistan – Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) Chairman Sahibzada Hamid Raza has been sent to jail to serve a 10-year sentence handed down by an Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Faisalabad in connection with the May 9, 2023 riots.
According to court orders, Hamid Raza was taken into custody to begin his term after being convicted for his role in the violent demonstrations that swept across the country following political unrest.
The verdict also led to the cancellation of his National Assembly membership, paving the way for a by-election in his constituency. The case remains one of the most high-profile prosecutions stemming from the May 9 incidents that left a lasting mark on Pakistan’s political and judicial landscape.
