WASHINGTON – On Pakistan’s Independence Day, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio reaffirmed Washington’s commitment to strengthening economic cooperation with Islamabad, with a focus on energy and mineral resources. Rubio emphasised the importance of developing Pakistan’s hydrocarbon and critical mineral reserves, expressing optimism for dynamic business partnerships that would benefit both nations.
“The United States deeply appreciates Pakistan’s engagement on counterterrorism and trade,” he stated, adding that exploring areas of economic collaboration would help promote a prosperous future for Americans and Pakistanis alike. His remarks echoed previous assurances by President Donald Trump to assist Pakistan in tapping its “massive oil deposits.”
The Independence Day message was prefaced with a ceremonial flag-hoisting event at the Pakistan Embassy in Washington, where Ambassador Rizwan Shaikh spoke of a longstanding alliance—dating back to Pakistan’s founding in 1947—that has endured through various challenges.
