Veteran Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has announced his retirement from the Indian Premier League (IPL), bringing an end to a remarkable 16-season career. Ashwin, who most recently played for the Chennai Super Kings, stated that he plans to explore opportunities in other global T20 leagues, marking a new chapter in his professional cricket journey.
Throughout his IPL career, Ashwin represented multiple franchises including Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals, Rajasthan Royals, Kings XI Punjab, and Rising Pune Supergiants. He concludes his IPL career as one of the league’s top wicket-takers, having taken 187 wickets in 221 matches, and is widely recognized for his strategic approach and adaptability in T20 cricket.
Ashwin retired from international cricket in December 2024, finishing as India’s second-highest wicket-taker in Test cricket with 537 wickets. Despite stepping away from the IPL, he remains open to participating in overseas franchise tournaments.
