ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rain, thunderstorms and snowfall in several parts of the country starting tomorrow, signalling a shift from the recent dry weather pattern and ushering in colder conditions as the new year approaches.
According to the PMD, a westerly weather system is expected to enter western parts of Pakistan and gradually intensify, affecting upper, central and northern regions over the coming days. The system is likely to bring widespread rain, gusty winds and snowfall in mountainous areas, with its impact expected to continue into the first days of the new year.
In the federal capital and Punjab, residents can expect intermittent rain and thunderstorms, while snowfall is forecast for Murree and the Galiyat, potentially affecting travel and tourism in hill stations. Major cities including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore and surrounding areas are likely to experience cooler temperatures accompanied by cloudy skies and occasional showers.
The PMD has also predicted unsettled weather for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where rain and thunderstorms are expected in plain areas, while moderate to heavy snowfall may occur in upper districts such as Chitral, Swat, Dir and Mansehra. Similar conditions are forecast for Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, where snowfall could disrupt road links in mountainous regions.
In Balochistan, rain and thunderstorms are expected across many districts, with snowfall likely over hilly areas including Quetta, Ziarat and Kalat. Parts of Sindh may also receive light rain or drizzle, particularly in coastal and urban areas, bringing some relief from dry weather.
Weather authorities have cautioned that snowfall and rain may lead to slippery roads, reduced visibility and temporary road closures, especially in northern and hilly regions. Citizens, travellers and tourists have been advised to take precautionary measures and stay updated with the latest weather advisories.
As Pakistan braces for a spell of wintry weather, the PMD continues to monitor the system closely and urges the public to remain alert to changing conditions over the next few days.
