LAHORE — The Punjab Police has taken a significant step forward in its welfare initiatives by arranging free major surgeries and medical aid for children of police personnel, reaffirming its commitment to the health and well-being of the force’s families.
As part of the ongoing “Hamaray Phool” project, the police have disbursed over Rs 308 million in the past two years to provide critical healthcare, monthly stipends, and assistive equipment for children battling serious illnesses, including heart diseases, kidney ailments, hearing impairments, and other complex medical conditions.
Comprehensive Welfare Drive
According to official figures, 1,433 children have benefited under this program so far. Out of these, 517 children received assistance for major surgeries, including life-saving heart, kidney, and organ transplants. The initiative has also facilitated 41 cochlear implant surgeries, valued at over Rs 71.7 million, helping children with severe hearing loss regain their ability to hear and communicate.
The welfare scheme also provides monthly stipends to children with chronic health conditions. Around 654 children diagnosed with cerebral palsy are receiving Rs 10,000 each per month, while 161 children suffering from thalassemia are being provided Rs 15,000 each monthly to help cover their ongoing treatment costs.
Wheelchairs, prosthetics, and other assistive devices have also been distributed to children with mobility challenges, ensuring that these young individuals receive not just medical attention but also the support they need to lead a better quality of life.
A Humanitarian Approach from Within the Force
Inspector General of Police Punjab, Dr Usman Anwar, emphasized that the Punjab Police considers every member of the force and their families part of one extended family. “The welfare of our personnel and their children is our priority. These children are our flowers, and we will continue to nurture them with love, care, and responsibility,” he said in a statement.
Dr Anwar added that the success of Hamaray Phool reflects the department’s determination to not only protect the public but also stand by the families of those who dedicate their lives to maintaining law and order in the province.
Looking Ahead
With the positive impact of the initiative clearly visible, the Punjab Police plans to expand the scope of these welfare projects in the coming months. Officials confirmed that additional funds and resources are being allocated to reach more families in need and to further enhance medical and educational support for these children.
The program has also been lauded by social activists and community members for setting a rare example of how state institutions can integrate welfare and service into their operational ethos.
By focusing on the well-being of its personnel and their families, Punjab Police has demonstrated that its commitment to service extends beyond duty and into compassion — creating a strong sense of solidarity within the ranks.
