LAHORE — Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has inaugurated a comprehensive flood rehabilitation programme valued at Rs100 billion, aimed at providing relief and support to communities severely affected by the recent floods across the province. The initiative seeks to address both immediate needs and long-term recovery for thousands of families.
Speaking at the launch event, Maryam Nawaz highlighted that the funds will be allocated for rebuilding homes, restoring infrastructure, and offering financial assistance to families who lost livelihoods or faced property damage. She stressed that the programme is designed to ensure swift, transparent, and equitable distribution to the most vulnerable communities.
The Chief Minister underscored the government’s focus on long-term rehabilitation, adding that efforts would extend beyond emergency relief to include reviving schools, healthcare facilities, and local businesses impacted by the floods. She directed local authorities to accelerate damage assessments and ensure timely disbursement of funds.
Officials confirmed that the initiative will also include specialized support for women, children, and senior citizens, aiming to protect the most at-risk groups during the recovery process. Maryam Nawaz further stated that monitoring committees will be established to maintain accountability and prevent mismanagement of resources.
The flood rehabilitation drive represents a significant step in Punjab’s efforts to mitigate the impact of natural disasters and strengthen resilience against future climate-related crises, while providing affected citizens with the resources needed to rebuild their lives.
