LAHORE – Punjab is confronting one of the worst flood crises in its history, with relentless monsoon rains and the release of water from Indian dams compounding the devastation. Rivers including the Chenab, Ravi, and Sutlej have breached their banks, submerging large areas and displacing hundreds of thousands of residents.
Authorities have evacuated thousands from high-risk zones, while controlled breaches of embankments have been implemented to protect major urban centers. Rescue teams continue to operate across the province, establishing relief camps to provide shelter, food, and medical assistance to those affected.
So far, 41 fatalities and multiple injuries have been reported. Officials warn that continued rainfall could worsen the situation, increasing the risk of further flooding in urban areas such as Lahore, Gujranwala, and Gujrat. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has urged residents to remain vigilant and comply with evacuation directives.
