Islamabad, Pakistan — Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has withdrawn its earlier notification regarding the formation of a parliamentary board for the upcoming local government elections in Islamabad, marking a sudden shift in the party’s electoral preparations for the federal capital.
The decision was announced through a fresh notification issued by PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja, which stated that the earlier order constituting the parliamentary board stood rescinded with immediate effect. Party sources said the move was taken after internal objections were raised over procedural and constitutional concerns within the party structure.
The parliamentary board, notified earlier, was tasked with overseeing the nomination and selection of PTI-backed candidates for Islamabad’s local bodies polls. It comprised several senior party members and had already begun initial work related to nominations. However, concerns emerged that the board had been constituted without following the required consultation process outlined in PTI’s party constitution.
PTI Islamabad Region President Amir Mughal reportedly conveyed reservations to the central leadership, stressing that the formation of such a board required formal input from the regional organisation. Following these concerns, the party leadership decided to revoke the notification to avoid further internal discord and potential legal or organisational complications.
The development has temporarily stalled PTI’s candidate nomination process for the local government elections, as a revised mechanism is now expected to be announced. Party insiders say consultations are underway to constitute a new parliamentary board in line with constitutional requirements, ensuring broader consensus within the Islamabad chapter.
Political observers view the move as an attempt by PTI to streamline its internal decision-making at a sensitive time, especially as local government polls are seen as crucial for grassroots mobilisation. The party’s next steps, including the announcement of a new board and the resumption of the nomination process, are likely to shape its strategy for the Islamabad local bodies elections.
