ISLAMABAD – With rising tensions inside Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan has moved swiftly to silence internal disagreements, urging party members to unite ahead of the planned “Free Imran” protest on August 5.
Disagreements recently surfaced between top leaders over the protest timeline. Punjab leader Aliya Hamza Malik openly opposed the 90-day plan suggested by KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, while Senator Ali Zafar also expressed concern over the strategy. Their criticism was seen as deepening the divide between PTI’s Punjab and KP factions.
In response, Imran Khan—through party channels—issued a strong message from jail, calling for discipline and warning party members against public infighting. PTI General Secretary Salman Akram Raja also backed the 90-day plan and condemned Aliya’s remarks, reinforcing the leadership’s stance.
Analysts say the move is aimed at presenting a united front before the upcoming protest campaign. However, concerns remain about internal unity and the party’s ability to mobilize effectively amid ongoing pressure from the state.
