ISLAMABAD – The Pakistan Tehreek‑e‑Insaf (PTI) parliamentary committee has urged former Prime Minister Imran Khan to seek support from overseas Pakistanis to aid flood‑affected communities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab. With millions impacted by recent devastating floods, PTI leaders stressed the importance of mobilising the diaspora to provide timely humanitarian assistance.
Committee member Asad Qaiser highlighted that international aid has been insufficient to address urgent relief needs. He suggested that funds raised by overseas Pakistanis should be channelled either through the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government or Imran Khan’s charity organisations to ensure efficient distribution and accountability.
The appeal comes alongside the party’s endorsement of Khan’s previous decisions to boycott upcoming by-elections and resign from parliamentary committees, citing deepening concerns over the state of democracy in the country. PTI leaders emphasised that alongside political action, humanitarian efforts remain a priority, especially for families who have lost homes, livestock, and livelihoods to the floods.
Officials and party members have also urged the government and civil society to coordinate with the diaspora and local NGOs to maximise relief coverage. PTI stressed that public and private contributions could significantly accelerate rescue, rehabilitation, and reconstruction efforts in the hardest-hit districts.
