Islamabad — Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir on Tuesday underscored the indispensable role of the police force in ensuring Pakistan’s internal security and strengthening the rule of law, describing effective policing as the backbone of a stable and secure society.
Addressing senior police leadership during his visit to the National Police Academy, the CDF said a professional, well-trained and people-centric police force serves as the first line of defence in protecting citizens’ lives, property and dignity. He emphasised that internal security challenges, including terrorism and organised crime, cannot be effectively countered without strong and capable law enforcement institutions.
Field Marshal Asim Munir highlighted the importance of close coordination between the police and other state institutions, noting that inter-agency cooperation is essential to respond to evolving security threats. He reaffirmed the armed forces’ full support to police personnel in the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities.
During the visit, the CDF paid tribute to police martyrs by laying a wreath at the Martyrs’ Monument and offering prayers in their honour. He acknowledged the sacrifices made by police officers across the country and termed their services a sacred national duty.
The army chief was also briefed on training and capacity-building initiatives at the academy, including specialised programmes aimed at modernising policing standards and enhancing operational effectiveness. Interacting with young officers, he urged them to uphold professionalism, integrity and public trust while adapting to modern policing practices.
Senior police officials present on the occasion reiterated their commitment to institutional reforms, improved training and public-oriented policing. They assured the CDF that efforts would continue to strengthen law enforcement capabilities in line with national security requirements.
Observers say the visit reflects the state’s broader emphasis on reinforcing internal security through coordinated action and institutional strengthening, with the police force playing a central role in maintaining law and order across the country.
