PAKISTAN – Conflicting statements have emerged from senior leaders of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) regarding whether Imran Khan’s sons should be allowed to visit Pakistan amid the former prime minister’s ongoing legal troubles.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi stated that there was no restriction on the entry of Qasim and Sulaiman Khan, adding that no one would be barred from visiting their father. His remarks came in response to speculation following Imran Khan’s appeal from prison, urging authorities to permit his sons to see him.
However, senior PML-N leader and federal minister Ahsan Iqbal offered a contrasting view, suggesting that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief had “neglected” the country’s youth while prioritising his own family. He argued that the visit would be inappropriate given Khan’s political conduct and treatment of others in similar circumstances.
The contrasting positions within the ruling party have prompted criticism from political observers, who stress the need for clarity and consistency on such matters. PTI officials have condemned what they term “political vindictiveness,” calling for a humanitarian approach in light of the family’s personal situation.
The debate continues amid heightened political tensions and ongoing legal proceedings against the PTI founder, who remains incarcerated following multiple convictions.
