Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has underscored the need for close cooperation between the federal government and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa administration during a meeting with Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur Afridi, stressing that coordinated governance is essential to address pressing national and provincial challenges.
During the meeting, the prime minister highlighted that effective collaboration between the centre and the provincial government was critical for maintaining stability, improving service delivery, and ensuring progress on development initiatives. He emphasised that political differences should not hinder cooperation on matters of public interest.
Discussions focused on security, economic pressures, and development priorities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with both sides acknowledging the importance of joint efforts to tackle issues affecting the province. The prime minister reiterated the federal government’s willingness to work with the KP government to address concerns related to law and order, infrastructure, and social welfare.
Chief Minister Afridi, in turn, briefed the prime minister on the challenges faced by the province and called for continued federal support, particularly in areas linked to security operations and economic development. He stressed that sustained engagement between Islamabad and Peshawar was necessary to ensure effective governance.
Political observers noted that the meeting came amid heightened political tensions, making the emphasis on cooperation particularly significant. Analysts said constructive engagement between the centre and KP could help ease friction and create space for consensus-driven policymaking.
The meeting concluded with assurances from both sides to maintain open channels of communication and work together in the national interest, signalling a shared understanding that cooperation remains vital despite political differences.
