ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has embarked on a six-day official visit to China, where he will attend the 25th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Tianjin and engage in a series of high-profile meetings aimed at strengthening bilateral and regional ties.
The visit, spanning August 30 to September 4, carries significant weight as the premier is set to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang to discuss economic cooperation, strategic collaboration, and further advancement of projects under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Phase II.
According to official sources, Prime Minister Shehbaz will also lead the Pakistani delegation at the Pakistan–China B2B Investment Conference in Beijing, where key discussions on industrialization, energy projects, and connectivity initiatives are expected to take place. The focus will remain on securing fresh investments to boost Pakistan’s economic and infrastructural landscape.
In addition to his bilateral engagements, Shehbaz Sharif will represent Pakistan at the SCO Summit, a high-profile gathering that will also see the participation of global leaders including Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The prime minister is scheduled to attend a military parade in Beijing, marking the 80th anniversary of the Anti-Fascist War, further solidifying Pakistan’s role as a key regional stakeholder.
Diplomatic circles view this visit as an opportunity for Pakistan to reinforce its all-weather strategic partnership with China, while also exploring avenues for broader cooperation in trade, technology, and regional security. Political analysts believe the trip could be a turning point in recalibrating Pakistan’s foreign policy priorities amidst shifting global dynamics.
Social media updates from the Prime Minister’s Office highlighted his optimism, calling the trip “historic” and emphasizing the need for stronger regional collaboration for collective prosperity and stability.
As the SCO summit unfolds, eyes across the region will be on Pakistan’s diplomatic maneuvers and the outcomes of Shehbaz’s high-level discussions, which are expected to shape the trajectory of Pakistan-China relations in the years ahead.
