ISLAMABAD – Pakistan: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has received a detailed inquiry report uncovering serious irregularities in the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) Tranche-III Project, estimated at over Rs170 billion.
The investigation, initiated earlier this year, focused on allegations of corruption, collusive bidding, and manipulation in the tendering process within the National Highway Authority (NHA). The committee examined evidence of financial mismanagement, potential conflicts of interest, and procedural lapses in major infrastructure contracts.
Sources indicate that the report includes recommendations for strict disciplinary action against several suspended officials, along with calls for improved oversight and transparency in future development schemes. The Prime Minister is expected to review the findings before ordering further action.
The inquiry marks one of the largest accountability reviews under the current administration, underscoring the government’s commitment to addressing corruption within major national projects.
