ISLAMABAD – Pakistan – Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) experienced widespread flight delays recently, leading to confusion and concern among passengers. The Society of Aircraft Engineers of Pakistan (SAEP) moved quickly to clarify that there is no strike, insisting that all staff are performing their duties in compliance with safety and maintenance regulations.
The delays affected multiple domestic and international flights, including routes to the Gulf, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded at airports across Islamabad, Karachi, and Lahore. The airline attributed the disruptions to essential technical checks and maintenance procedures that ensure aircraft meet mandatory airworthiness standards.
SAEP officials emphasised that their members are fully committed to operational responsibilities and denied any allegations of work stoppages or intentional slowdowns. Airline management echoed the statement, stressing that flight schedules were being adjusted solely to accommodate necessary safety inspections and compliance measures.
The incident highlights ongoing challenges for PIA, including staffing pressures, maintenance backlogs, and operational strain as the national carrier moves toward restructuring and privatisation. Authorities and airline officials have assured passengers that all efforts are being made to restore normal operations while maintaining stringent safety standards.
