ISLAMABAD, Pakistan – Pakistan and Iran have reaffirmed their commitment to boosting cooperation in trade, security, connectivity, and regional stability during Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian’s landmark visit to the country.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif warmly received the Iranian leader at Nur Khan Airbase, accompanied by a high-level delegation. The two leaders expressed a shared vision to elevate bilateral trade from $3 billion to $10 billion, expanding collaboration in sectors such as energy, transport, climate change, science, and border commerce.
Multiple MoUs were signed, covering customs, joint border markets, information technology, judicial matters, tourism, and air services, setting the stage for institutionalised cooperation between the two neighbours.
On the security front, both sides pledged to strengthen coordination on counterterrorism and border management. Defence officials held detailed discussions on enhancing military ties and ensuring peace along shared frontiers.
President Pezeshkian voiced strong interest in Iran’s inclusion in CPEC, highlighting the potential to link Iran with China and Europe through Pakistan — a move seen as a major boost to regional connectivity.
In a powerful diplomatic gesture, Pakistan also reiterated its support for Iran’s right to pursue peaceful nuclear energy under international agreements. Furthermore, Islamabad signaled its readiness to facilitate dialogue between Tehran and Washington, emphasising its role as a peace broker.
