ISLAMABAD, PAKISTAN: The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) has stepped in to end confusion surrounding Ayesha Omar’s much-discussed reality dating show Lazawaal Ishq. The authority made it clear that the program will not be televised on any Pemra-licensed channel and will instead premiere exclusively on YouTube.
In its statement, Pemra revealed that it had received several complaints and queries after a wave of promotional activity on social media suggested the show could land on TV. The regulator clarified: “Lazawaal Ishq is a content broadcast on social media platforms. This program is not being broadcast on any TV channel licensed by Pemra. Pemra rules apply only to TV channels licensed by Pemra.”
Hosted by celebrated actress Ayesha Omar, the show is being billed as the first of its kind for Pakistani and Urdu-speaking audiences across the globe. Earlier, Omar herself confirmed that the project will debut online, describing it as an innovative take on global reality formats.
The format, inspired by the Turkish hit Aşk Adası, will bring together four men and four women in a luxury villa for over 100 episodes, where they will face challenges, form connections, and ultimately compete as couples. The winning pair will walk away crowned as the final champions of the show.
The announcement comes amid public debates over morality and cultural values, with many questioning whether such a concept could be cleared for TV broadcast in Pakistan. Pemra’s clarification has now settled the matter — Lazawaal Ishq is a digital-only venture.
