COLOMBO – The International Cricket Council (ICC) has confirmed that Pakistan’s women’s cricket team will play all their matches for the upcoming 2025 Women’s World Cup in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
The decision comes under a special arrangement due to ongoing diplomatic constraints between India and Pakistan. While India is the official host of the tournament, Pakistan’s fixtures have been relocated to a neutral venue to avoid political complications.
The tournament kicks off in October, with Pakistan set to face tough competition, including a much-anticipated clash against arch-rivals India early in the campaign. All group matches, including those against Australia, England, South Africa, and Sri Lanka, will be staged at Colombo’s R. Premadasa Stadium.
Should Pakistan qualify for the knockout rounds, their semi-final and final matches will also be held in Colombo. However, if the team is eliminated before then, the remaining fixtures will proceed as scheduled in Indian cities.
Cricket analysts view the ICC’s hybrid model as a practical solution to keep sporting events inclusive, while respecting geopolitical sensitivities. For Pakistan, the consistency of playing at one venue may provide a strategic advantage in familiar pitch conditions.
The Women’s World Cup 2025 is expected to draw global attention, and Pakistan’s campaign in Colombo will be closely followed by fans and critics alike.
